Last week Tim Janus of New York managed to gobble down a Thanks Giving meal meant to serve 10 in just 15 minutes. This was part of a public relations stunt to draw attention to New York City’s hungry.
After consuming four pounds of mashed potatoes, a whole 10 pound turkey, 2.5 pounds of beans and three pounds of cranberry sauce, Janus said “What’s so important about today is that it begins to fill my stomach up and I can now leave a little more for everybody else”. He then ate an entire pumpkin pie for dessert!
Janus is a Major League Eater champion and he holds the world titles in Cannolis, Marshmallow Peeps, and Tiramisu.
The league was going to donate six thousand dollars to the New York City food bank. That sum should provide 30,000 meals for New Yorks hungry. The league gave $4000 to the Second Harvest food bank as well.
Apparently 1.3 million New Yorkers currently turn to food banks and soup kitchens to keep from going hungry.
